The rationale for ELSIE
There has been a dramatic rise in degree holders entering the workforce, meaning that it has become increasingly important that students market themselves well (for the workplace). Due to the competitive graduate labour market, employers are now seeking degree holders with formal work experience and a broader range of transferable skills. However, gaining formal work experience may prove difficult whilst studying a degree full time. For these reasons, the English Language team at UCLan proactively initiated the ELSIE project.
What ELSIE offers UCLan students
We are offering students the opportunity to enhance their employability status, by working with external employers on an employability-related project.
As a student, this experience will enable you to:
- Identify transferable skills necessary for the workplace;
- Transfer English subject-specific skills to the working environment;
- Gain an insight into career options and recognise your career-related interests, skills and abilities;
- Obtain valuable formal work experience;
- Prepare for graduate employment;
- Increase your self-awareness and learn about your strengths and weaknesses.
